YOUR DATA. YOUR CHOICES.

Privacy Policy.

Your rides tell your story. Here’s how MotoJot handles that information—and how you control what you share.

Effective date:

1. About this policy

This policy applies to the MotoJot mobile app, MotoJot account and community services, and motojot.com. “MotoJot,” “we,” and “us” refer to the operator of these services. For privacy questions, contact support@motojot.com.

You can record without an account.

Without signing in, your ride journal and Garage data are stored on your device rather than synchronized to a MotoJot account. Loading maps can still contact a map provider. An account enables online synchronization and community features.

2. Information we handle

  • Account information: email address, handle, password hash, verification/reset records, session information, optional avatar, bio, and profile settings. Passwords are checked for authentication; we store password hashes rather than readable passwords.
  • Ride and location information: GPS coordinates, timestamps, speed, altitude, accuracy, route geometry, timing intervals, statistics, trim information, and original source data retained for reversible editing. Precise location may be collected in the background during a recording session, including while the screen is locked. Monitoring may continue during automatic pauses or when automatic resumption is enabled.
  • Your journal and Garage: ride names, notes, photos, captions, manually entered weather, bikes, tire pressures, maintenance records, gear, ratings, Rider Classes, appearance selections, loadouts, and ride equipment snapshots.
  • Discovery information: your saved city/ZIP Base Camp and radius preferences. Using Current Location sends a temporary search center to the API for nearby results; it is not automatically saved as Base Camp or displayed to other riders.
  • Community information: shared rides, selected profile information, Guild memberships and invitations, planned rides and responses, shared-ride participation, posts, comments, Ride Ons, blocks, and reports.
  • Notifications and technical information: notification preferences, inbox/read state, push-registration tokens, device/platform and app-version information, and request/security information such as IP addresses, timestamps, and error records.
  • Membership and support: membership status, billing-provider identifiers and transaction references, and information you send when contacting support. Payment-card details are handled by the payment provider, not stored by MotoJot.

Signing in and synchronizing can upload your locally stored account data. Do not add information you do not want stored in your journal or synchronized account.

3. Why we use it

We use this information to record and display rides, manage Garage and maintenance, synchronize and restore your data, authenticate accounts, deliver requested notifications, manage subscriptions, provide nearby discovery and community features, respond to support, and protect against abuse. Moderators use reports and relevant community content to enforce safety and access rules.

We do not sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising. MotoJot’s current app does not include advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.

The marketing website does not use advertising or analytics cookies or third-party tracking scripts. The hosting server may maintain access and security logs. Other services, including a payment checkout or an administrator console, may use cookies necessary for their own operation.

4. Sharing and visibility

Recording does not automatically publish a ride. Ride data, bike/gear notes, maintenance, loadouts, and other journal information remain private unless a feature explicitly lets you select information for sharing.

Cross Roads publications and enabled public rider profiles are visible to signed-in riders, subject to access, blocking, and moderation rules. Guild content is available to eligible Guild members. Authorized administrators may access information needed for support, security, and moderation.

Public profiles are optional. You choose the information to display, such as your bio, bikes, loadouts, or statistics. Enabling Show Base Camp on an enabled profile displays your general area and makes you discoverable in Nearby Riders. It does not expose live whereabouts or another rider’s precise search-center coordinates.

Shared routes use the app’s privacy-protected geometry, but a route can still reveal places you visited. MotoJot removes embedded photo metadata during normal photo processing; visible landmarks, faces, signs, and captions can still reveal personal information or locations. Review every publication before sharing. Private edits do not necessarily update an existing publication snapshot.

Other riders may save or screenshot information they can view. Disabling a profile or deleting content cannot remove copies already saved by someone else.

We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect people and the service, or respond to valid legal requests.

5. Service providers

Providers process information needed to operate particular features:

  • Hosting and storage: our hosting infrastructure runs the website/API and stores synchronized data, private media, operational logs, and backups.
  • Brevo: delivers account and administrative emails, including verification and password-reset messages.
  • Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service: deliver optional push alerts using device-registration information. Push messages use generic activity content; opening an alert retrieves the relevant content through authenticated access.
  • Stripe: processes MotoJot Plus checkout and subscription management, using billing/contact information and payment details supplied during checkout. Stripe may retain payment records under its own legal obligations.
  • Map providers: the app uses MapLibre to display maps and OpenFreeMap by default for map tiles. Map requests can expose your IP address and the geographic area being viewed to the tile provider, even without a MotoJot account.
  • Apple and Google: operate app distribution, device permissions, and platform services under their own policies.

Provider information: Brevo privacy policy, Firebase privacy information, Stripe privacy policy, OpenFreeMap privacy policy, Apple privacy policy, and Google privacy policy. Providers may process information in countries other than your own.

6. Your choices

  • Use local recording without an account. An internet connection is required for account, synchronization, and community services.
  • Change location, camera/photo, and notification permissions in your device settings. Disabling required location access prevents reliable recording. Camera/library permissions are requested when needed for adding images.
  • Manage activity-alert preferences in Notifications. Push permission is optional and separate from location recording.
  • Edit or delete journal content, withdraw shared content, disable your public profile, hide Base Camp, and block or report riders through the app.
  • Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information, or to ask about privacy rights available where you live. We may need to verify your identity before acting. Never email us your password.

Signing out does not itself delete your online account or all locally stored data. Uninstalling the app is not an account-deletion request, and may remove local data that was never synchronized.

7. Retention and account deletion

We retain your account and synchronized content while needed to provide the service until you delete it. Operational records are retained only as needed for security, support, legal obligations, and preventing abuse. Individual deletion may leave synchronization tombstones so the deletion can reach your other devices.

Delete in the app: Garage → Delete Account.

Enter your current password and confirm permanent deletion. A connection is required. Use the password-reset flow if you need it; contacting support is not required to initiate in-app deletion.

Confirmed deletion removes live account data and associated private/shared content, revokes sessions, and starts removal of associated media files. File-cleanup failures are retried. It also removes MotoJot data on the requesting device, including unsynchronized and anonymous local data, and discards an active recording after server deletion succeeds.

Other updated devices clear their MotoJot data when they reconnect and receive account-deletion status. Devices that stay offline cannot be remotely erased. A new account does not restore the deleted account’s content.

Database and media backup copies may remain for up to 30 days before expiry. Minimal technical deletion records are retained to prevent restored backups or old sessions from reviving a deleted account; deletion-ledger entries expire after 31 days, and hashed deleted-session markers last until the original session expiry.

Deleting an account does not erase payment records held by Stripe, copies saved by other riders, or information a provider must retain under its own obligations. Manage renewal through Garage → MotoJot Plus; do not assume uninstalling the app cancels a subscription.

8. Security and children

We use measures such as HTTPS for production connections, password hashing, authenticated access, authorization checks, private media storage, and restricted administration. No system can guarantee absolute security. Keep your device and credentials secure, and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.

MotoJot is not designed for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and remove it as appropriate.

9. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as features or practices change. We will revise the effective date and provide additional notice where required for material changes.

Privacy questions or requests: support@motojot.com. Include enough information to identify your account, but do not send passwords, payment-card numbers, or private route files.
